Selena Marie Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas on July 22, 1992, to parents Ricardo Gomez and Mandy Teefey. She has a younger sister named Gracie Elliot.

After her parents divorced when she was around five years old, Selena’s mother remarried Brian Teefey. Selena grew up as an only child until the age of nine when she gained two stepsisters from her mother’s marriage – Angela and Emily.

In 2004, at the age of 13, Selena began playing as Alex Russo in Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place. The show became a major hit with viewers and during this time Gomez also starred in another Disney series called The Suite Life of Zack & Cody as a recurring character named Maya.
